We are Redlynch Valley residents who are grappling with the extension of the nearby Boral quarry. Welcome to our blog.
The extension wreaks havoc on our environment and community and will continue to do so for decades to come. It was approved in a secretive process and the Cairns Regional Council is reluctant to answer questions. Our journey so far has been a tough one, this blog gives us a voice.
Our aim is to chart the impact of the quarry extension in real-time. The impact on visual amenity, along with the results of any rehabilitation efforts, are being monitored from the land and air. Our upcoming website features will assist community members to participate in monitoring the impact on ecology, community and human health.
A key feature of the blog is our Checkpoint Series. We will continue to publish Checkpoint Posts as-and-when required, maybe up to six per year? They will provide a broad but brief update from the perspective of Redlynch residents, including the latest on:
- Noise,
- Dust,
- Land clearing,
- Visual amenity,
- Sightings of cassowaries and other fauna,
- Relevant news from Boral,
- Noteworthy contact with government departments and others; and
- Media and social media coverage.
Aside from the Checkpoint Posts our blog will include deep dives into topics of community interest such as rehabilitation, compliance, and corporate responsibility.
